A Year of Building: CSU Climate Hub Impact Report 2025

2025 was a year of building, listening, dreaming and kicking off our first activities. Thank you to everyone who was there with us, validating our belief that the Hub has a critical role to play in advancing evidence-based climate solutions and action and that the time for this work is now. Here are some of our highlights from 2025.

CLIMATE HUB LAUNCH

The Climate Hub was formally launched in October 2025. Our launch event and the following reception at CSU Spur brought together 200 climate leaders from across the state for engaging conversations and networking. The gathering demonstrated Colorado’s unique quality as a dynamic and collaborative space to advance cross-sectoral and science-based climate work.

A PIONEERING CLIMATE TRAINING FOR COLORADO POLICYMAKERS

The day after our launch event, we hosted “Colorado Crossroads: Resilient Agriculture in a Changing Climate”, a training event for Colorado policymakers. A collaboration with the National Academies and the Institute for Science and Policy of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, this was the first state-level pilot of a program the Academies has successfully been running in Washington D.C.

AN EXCITING CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Climate Hub, together with the CSU School of Sustainable Futures (formerly School of Global Environmental Sustainability), will host the third National Sustainability Society (NSS) Annual Conference in August 2026. The announcement was made by Dr. Courtney Schultz, the School of Sustainable Futures director, and Dr. Veera Mitzner, the Climate Hub director, at the second NSS annual conference at the University of Notre Dame in October 2025.

CLIMATE HUB WEBSITE

We launched our website! There will be more content in the upcoming months. You can also sign up for updates or follow us on LinkedIn.

INAUGURAL COLORADO CLIMATE WEEK

We hosted the very first Colorado Climate Week at CSU Spur. Jocelyn Hittle, the Associate Vice President of CSU Spur and Special Projects, gave the opening remarks.

RESILIENCY ROUNDTABLE

In collaboration with the Colorado Resiliency Office, we convened a roundtable discussion regarding the next edition of the Colorado Resiliency Framework.

CLIMATE HUB IN MEDIA

The Climate Hub was featured in media. The Climate Hub director Veera Mitzner spoke to CBS in November.

CSU CLIMATE HUB FOUNDING ADVISORY BOARD

We are grateful for our Founding Advisory Board members. This outstanding group of senior climate leaders will guide the Climate Hub through its first two years.

Climate Across the Curriculum

Climate Across the Curriculum (CATC) is a training program that equips educators across all disciplines with the tools, strategies, and adaptable content to integrate climate science and dialogue into their existing coursework. In August 2025, the School of Global Environmental Sustainability hosted this training at the Climate Hub for Denver Public Schools middle and high school educators to develop and enhance climate-related conversations and activities in their classrooms.

GROWING TEAM

Our team is expanding! Gwen Corner will join the Climate Hub as the Research and Special Projects Manager in January. Gwen brings to the role a significant experience in working with universities, start-ups, and non-profit organizations, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Hub!

In addition to all this, we had hundreds of informative conversations with CSU faculty and leadership, as well as with community members and potential partners and supporters. We did a landscape analysis of university-based climate services, expanded our customer discovery process, attended the New York Climate Week and other events, asked questions, and listened. Building and launching the Hub has been an effort to create an inclusive entity that truly serves the community, elevates CSU’s climate expertise and impact, and fundamentally, makes a difference.

What to expect from 2026? A lot! Stay tuned for our Colorado Climate Week events in March and April, the NSS conference in August, and new training and research activities. There might even be a climate podcast…
